What is Microconsulting?

Microconsulting is an emerging practice where consulting services are provided to federal agencies on contracts valued below the micropurchase threshold.

What Changed?

This modernization in Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) requirements on contracts for services began in 2017 when the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) raised the  micropurchase threshold for civilian agencies  from $3,000 to $10,000. The DoD followed suit in 2018.  The threshold is now large enough to reasonably accommodate contracts for many types of services
NDAA Summary

Why is it so much faster?

FAR 13.2 Micropurchase procedures provide speed and convenience in contracting by:
1) Eliminating contract clauses
2) Allowing awards without competition, public solicitation, or public notice
3) Encouraging use of Government Purchase cards whenever possible

These procedures allow non-buyers to immediately award contracts within limits
